Klezident Evil
Do you like compound meter, trashy Jewish and Eastern European music, and video games?
Then Klezident Evil Needs You!
We need a new percussionist AND a new bass player!
Percussionist- needs to be able to play doumbek/djembe and a set. Instruments can be provided. Required: You read music, will commit to weekly practice Thursday nights, and will practice on your own. Need to know the basics of playing doumbek, and set or snare basic rudiments. Hint: if you don't know what "rudiments" means, you need more experience.
Bassist - either upright or electric will work. Neither instrument nor amp are provided. Required: You can read a lead sheet with chords and play a basic bassline. You will commit to weekly practice Thursday nights, and will practice on your own. You will provide your own bass (and amp if you use one).
You DON'T need experience with Klezmer or Eastern European music. We have lots of resources to provide you, and we keep up-to-date with all the workshops that go on around the Bay Area. We have sheet music for all our numbers. However, you will need to actually like this style of music, because you'll be expected to listen to it a lot to learn the style. Even though all the sheet music is provided, it's only as a guideline. We embellish and improvise.
You DON'T have to be into gaming, but it will help you get our jokes and come up with ideas for covering video game music :) This is an ensemble band - all our members are encouraged to give creative input, suggest new tunes, make their part their own and generally contribute.
You DO need a positive attitude and be generally laid back - we take the music seriously but not ourselves. We are not a jam band.
You DO need an e-mail address that you check on a regular basis, and be able to download sheet music and sound files on occasion.
